Incahuasi — "House of the Inca" in Quechua — is a 6,638 m volcano straddling the Chile-Argentina border. It was a place of pilgrimage in the Inca era: the mountain's flanks still hold ceremonial platforms, shrines, and the traces of trails that climbed to the summit five hundred years before modern mountaineers arrived.
The standard route today is non-technical — volcanic scree, firn snow, a short rock section near the top — but the setting is unlike anywhere else in the Andes. Fewer teams. More silence. And the constant reminder that people climbed here long before the sport of mountaineering existed.
Incahuasi is often chosen by climbers who want a serious 6,000 m objective in a less-visited corner of the range, or by those combining it with Ojos or Tres Cruces on the same trip.
